Biography

Dr. Chang received MD from Jiangxi Medical College, M.Sc. and PhD from the Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto, Canada. He then trained and specialized in Hematological Pathology and joined the faculty as a staff physician at the Toronto General Hospital/University Health Network. Dr. Chang is a Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, University of Toronto. His research has mainly dealt with the characterization of genetic events for initiation and progression of multiple myeloma and acute leukemia as well as identification of molecular prognostic factors and therapeutic targets in hematological malignancies. He has fostered the introduction of molecular genetic risk stratification for the blood cancers into clinical practice. He is an international expert in hematological pathology and a leader in his field of research in myeloma and leukemia. Dr. Chang has published nearly 200 original peer-reviewed papers related to blood cancer pathobiology. He also serves on the Editorial Board and Section Editors of multiple medical scientific journals. Dr. Chang is frequently invited as a guest speaker internationally, and regularly serves on the committee panels for national and international research grant agencies. Dr. Chang received several awards for his teaching and research in cancer and education such as TransAmerica Life Canada Award from Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada, and the Excellence in Teaching and Research in Life Sciences Award, University of Toronto.
